Imitation of Christ—Jesus prays

We know from the Bible that “Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” (Luke 5:16) I think this reveals the “triune nature” of God. God exists as God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, also referred to as the Holy Trinity, One God, three Persons. Jesus is God; “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.” (Colossians 1:15) “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word.” (Hebrews 1:3) In the Holy Scriptures we see how Jesus prayed in solitude, communing with His Father and our Father. Jesus tells His apostles, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.” (John 14:9)

Jesus tells us “when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” (Matthew 6:6) In order to change us, God needs private time with us. Think of your most precious relationships and how they are nurtured and strengthened with private memories…Jesus wants those private times with us too.

Early in my spiritual journey, I heard a priest say something about prayer that I will never forget. He said “prayer is not about words, it’s about desire.” I believe the greater our desire for holiness and communion with God, the more beautiful our prayer becomes. I feel fortunate that I learned how to pray the Holy Rosary because it’s a meditative prayer that allows me to travel through the mysteries of the Bible while I ask the Virgin Mary to help me to honor her Holy Son who gives everything to His Bride on the Cross.

“Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10…May your spiritual journey be full of intimate moments with the Holy One who loves you the most!  Don’t just include Jesus in part of your life, give Him your life.  Be with Him in every moment, for that’s what He desires!
