Do you want to fall in love with Jesus?

I have always loved Jesus, but I was not always “in love” with Jesus.   So you may be wondering what’s the difference…between “love” and “in love”.  Well, let me draw on the greek language for some help.  In greek there is a love called “philial”.  Philial love is a brotherly love that is defined by affection and respect and admiration, but there is something greater and that kind of love is called “agape”.  Agape is “unconditional love”; it’s a self-sacrificing love.  There is no greater love than “agape”.

Agape is what Jesus gives us.  His love is unconditional and everlasting.  The love of Jesus is patient and self-sacrificing.  Jesus proved this love to us on the Cross.  He proved to us that He would die for people that did not yet love Him.  How’s that for patient and hopeful?  Jesus proved that His love had no limits.   “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”  John 15:13

I fell in love with Jesus by meditating on His Passion.  I will admit to you that originally I was afraid to contemplate the Passion of Christ.  I was afraid to see Jesus suffering.  I was afraid to see the price of my sins, but Jesus kept encouraging me by saying in my heart the words “honour me”.  It wasn’t an order, just a gentle, humble, hopeful request that I understand how much He suffered to redeem us.

So I did what Jesus asked.  I began contemplating His Passion and it began with just a few moments every day at the time Jesus died for us 3pm.  What started as something very small became life changing.  My love for Jesus changed from being a brotherly type of “philial” love to the type of love that you are willing to die for “agape”.  If Jesus will die for me, I want to be able to give everything for Him.

I created this page (https://passionofchrist.ca) to encourage people to join me at the foot of the Cross of Jesus every day at 3pm (in your local time zone).    By doing this you will be honouring your Saviour Jesus Christ with a solemn remembrance of His Passion.  Jesus died for us at 3pm, in horrible agony while people insulted Him and mocked Him.  Now every day at 3pm, we are presented with a choice, will we stop to remember Him at this sacred time?

Will you do this?

Jesus made a request in October 1937 via St. Faustina that His followers remember Him at the time He died for us.  Jesus said, “At three o’clock, implore My mercy, especially for sinners; and, if only for a brief moment, immerse yourself in My Passion, particularly in My abandonment at the moment of agony. This is the hour of great mercy for the whole world. I will allow you to enter into My mortal sorrow. In this hour, I will refuse nothing to the soul that makes a request of Me in virtue of My Passion…immerse yourself in prayer there where you happen to be, if only for a very brief instant.”  Words of Jesus Diary of St. Faustina 1320, 157

Now maybe you don’t believe that Jesus appeared to St. Faustina.  You don’t have to believe that Jesus appeared to St. Faustina to pray at the time Jesus died for you, but you do have to love Him.  If you love Jesus and you believe in the power of prayer, then join the global prayer movement that is honouring Our Lord and Saviour each day at the solemn time He died in agony for our salvation, 3pm.  By doing this, I fell I love with Jesus and I believe you will too.  Once you see what the Holy Spirit does with a soul that is determined to honour Jesus by contemplating His Passion and remembering Him every day at the time Jesus died for us, you will understand why so many saints advocated that disciples of Jesus meditate on His Passion.  I believe that true faith, the kind you are willing to die for, is born at the foot of the Cross of Jesus Christ.
