“Do this in memory of me” says Jesus

Memories…we hold them in our heart, and we treasure them. On the night before Jesus died, Jesus celebrated His “Last Supper” with His chosen apostles. A sacred meal would be shared in honour of the greatest sacrifice the world has ever known and will ever know—the sacrifice of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

“And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” Luke 22:19

In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.” Luke 22:20

The Passion of Christ is remembered each time we celebrate the Holy Mass. Just as Jesus gave His first apostles His Body and Blood at His Last Supper on the night before He died, we are given the great privilege of receiving the Holy Eucharist, the Body and Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ at each celebration of the Mass.

Do you remember the Passion of Christ at each Mass? Do you see the Altar like the Cross of Jesus? Do you flashback during the ceremony to your memories of Jesus being tortured and crucified for our salvation?

If you are going to do this (celebrate the Mass) in memory of Jesus then you need to have a rich memory of how much Jesus suffered to give us His Body and Blood.

When people say the Mass is boring, they are speaking out of ignorance. Before we can be enlightened, most of us are ignorant of the miracle of what we are experiencing. We need to be enlightened. I created this page https://passionofchrist.ca to help you create a memory of the Passion of Christ that is moving and deep, a memory that will penetrate your heart and your mind with an understanding of how much Jesus loves you.

How much Jesus suffered to give us the gift of His Body and Blood! We are cleansed of our sins by this great atoning sacrifice.  Jesus, The Divine Mercy offers Himself up in reparation for the sins of the world appeasing the wrath of God’s Divine Justice. But if we don’t bring a memory of the Passion of Christ into the Mass then we may be at risk of going through the motions of worship with an inability to truly do this in memory of the greatest love the world has ever known and will ever know—the love of Our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Recall the words of the Prophet Isaiah speaking of Our Lord Jesus:

“He was despised and rejected by mankind,
a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.
Like one from whom people hide their faces
he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.” Isaiah 53:3

IMAGINE – Jesus, the living God, the true image of the Father, creator of the world, redeemer of all souls is REJECTED AND DESPISED! What suffering! What injustice! What humiliation!

“Just as there were many who were appalled at him—
his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any human being
and his form marred beyond human likeness” Isaiah 52:14

Jesus is tortured by His own people! Jesus is tortured to the point of being disfigured beyond human likeness! What pain! What cruelty! How ugly are our sins! How much He loves us!

“He was harshly treated, yet He submitted and did not open His mouth. He was silent like a lamb led to the slaughter.” Isaiah 53:7  Innocence is killed! Jesus was innocent and pure! Jesus is the Holy One! Yet He gives up His life willingly, enduring torture, humiliation and the agony of crucifixion…WHY? Because that’s how much He wanted to spare us from having to suffer the price of our sins!

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.” John 3:16-17

“Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” John 1:29

When the Priest says these words in the Mass, draw on your memory of the Passion of Christ and as the Priest lifts up the consecrated bread that has now been transformed into the Body of Christ, see Jesus on the Cross dying for you!  He held YOU in His mind and in His heart as He was dying to cleanse YOU of all impurity. He was paying the price of the injustice of your sins and my sins and all sins. Is there any greater love than the love of Jesus Christ? NO!

“We love because He first loved us!” 1 John 4:19

Remember His Passion and remember who Jesus is. “The Son is the reflection of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being.” Hebrews 1:3

Jesus is God! Jesus is God incarnate, the Word made flesh, the Saviour of all souls and He was rejected and despised, humiliated, tortured and crucified by His own creatures!

Today we remember Him and we honour Him and we accept the humiliation and suffering life brings and we offer it all up to God in support of His plan of salvation.

How privileged we are to be able to receive His Body and Blood in the Sacred Mass. Remember the words of Jesus:

“Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.  Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.  For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.  Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them.  Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” John 6:53-58

Go to Mass with your memory of the Passion of Christ and know that you are going to meet the living God, veiled in the consecrated Bread and Wine. Our senses of sight and taste will continue to see and taste bread and wine, but with our spiritual eyes and our souls we know and understand that Jesus is coming down from heaven in each celebration to be one with us, to live in us so that He can hold us close to His heart and fulfill the plans He has for us.

“The Body of Christ”  AMEN!  TRULY!  WE BELIEVE!

GO TO MASS and do this in memory of the greatest love you will ever know, the love of your Saviour Jesus Christ who has prepared a place for you in paradise and wants to be with you RIGHT NOW!

Every day at 3pm remember the Passion of Jesus Christ, 3pm is the time Our Lord Jesus died on the Cross for us. Bring that memory into the Mass with you, treasure it and allow it to help you rise up to be all that Jesus wants you to be! Jesus loves you so much!
