Commit to Jesus

Many people are afraid of commitments. What if we make a commitment to someone or something and then we change our minds?  UGH!

Commitments may make us feel vulnerable. What if I lose something in this deal?

If our goal is to protect our own interests and maximize our own personal satisfaction then we will consider the pro’s and con’s of making any type of commitment very carefully. This reasoning applies to making a commitment to a new job or a new house all the way up to a marriage commitment.

Here’s a refreshing thought for you to consider:

If you truly commit your life to God and truly trust in Him then He will help you to make all the right choices and life commitments.

“Commit your future to the LORD! Trust in him, and he will act on your behalf. He will vindicate you in broad daylight, and publicly defend your just cause.” Psalm 37:5-6

You may already trust in God, but ask yourself how much time do you spend worrying about your future?

I will confess to you that prior to my spiritual conversion I spent a huge amount of time worrying about many things. I did not realize that I could hold God’s hand and that He would help me with everything.  Now I try not to worry as I put all things in the omnipotent hands of God.

Whatever you are working on put it in God’s hands and let Him help you.

“Entrust your work to the LORD, and your planning will succeed.” Proverbs 16:3

Whatever your challenges, put them in the hands of God.

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” 1 Peter 5:7

Making a commitment to Jesus is the most important thing you will ever do! If we are to become true disciples we must commit our life to doing God’s will and giving Him glory. There is no other reason for which we are created but to please God.

God has a plan for each of us and He will provide all that we need to succeed so long as we remain committed to Him. It’s easy to say we are committed but it takes continuous dedication to prove our commitment.

In the prayer that Jesus taught us, we ask God, “Give us this day our daily bread.” Notice that the focus is on God providing for us on a daily basis. God wants us to be continuously united to Him, relying on His providence, guidance, wisdom and grace in every moment of every day.

Commit your life to Jesus and renew your commitment to Him every day.

Do you want to know how I renew my commitment to Jesus every day?

At three o’clock in the afternoon (the time Jesus died on the Cross for us), I meditate on the Passion of Christ as I pray for all souls. I remember how much Jesus suffered on the Cross to save us and I tell Him how much I love Him as I reflect on how much He loves all of us.

“We love because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19

In this meditation on His Passion I renew my commitment to live a life totally committed to doing God’s will. I ask for God’s grace to understand His will and for the courage and energy to fulfill it. I also ask for the patience to persevere and to endure the set backs and disappointments and to trust in God’s wisdom and love always.

There is nothing to lose in committing your life to God, but there is everything to lose in NOT committing your life to God!

Living selfishly is a meaningless existence, but living selflessly for the glory of Our Lord Jesus who gave everything for us is a life full of purpose and meaning.
