Celebrating All Saints Day

Today the Church celebrates “All Saints Day”.

If you live in North America perhaps you remember the game show “Who wants to be a millionaire”.  Seems most people these days are busy adding to their wealth, climbing the career ladder, saving for retirement, but how many people want to be saints?

If you had asked me “Do you want to be a saint?” when I was in my twenty’s and thirty’s I would have looked at you with puzzled eyes.  In fact I honestly never considered that indeed that is what God is calling all of us to be until I reached my forties.

Reflect on this Scripture:  “But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’” 1 Peter 1:15-16

Jesus wants to perfect each and every one of His people.  Jesus wants us to be holy!  As Baptized Christians we are the Body of Christ on earth. We are disciples of Jesus and Jesus wants to work through each of us. Jesus has a plan for each individual and it’s up to us to answer His call. But none of us can be exemplary individuals unless we choose to do one important thing: SURRENDER TO JESUS!

Jesus will supply all that we need to fulfill whatever plan He has for us.

Jesus is holy and sainthood is only achieved through a perfect, intimate communion with Our Lord Jesus.

This communion begins when we repent of our sins and choose to trust in Jesus. This intimate communion is defined by our complete trust in the Lord to purify us and inspire us to turn away from sin and do good works. Answering God’s call to sainthood often requires that we abandon some of the plans we may have conceived on our own like being financially rich or powerful.

God is powerful. He is Almighty! Yet consider how Jesus humbled Himself to die for us in the most brutal way, by crucifixion. Jesus proved His love for us on the Cross.  Jesus is the Holy One.  There is no source of holiness but Him.  Jesus wants to help us to become holy and in surrendering to the will of God we begin a spiritual journey with Our Lord where He will perfect us one day at a time through each experience, each struggle. Slowly and surely Jesus will lift us up to see with eternal eyes an everlasting future, recognizing that each day is a stepping stone to eternity with God.

Jesus proved His love for us by dying for us.  Let’s strive to prove how much we love Him by surrendering our lives to Jesus, by trusting in Him, by praying for His grace upon all souls and by following His inspiration to live holy lives, lives that are humble, generous and merciful.

Let’s ask Jesus to forgive us and to help us walk with Him each and every day.   In every moment may our communion with Our Holy Lord Jesus be intimate and trusting. I love You Jesus! Thank You for saving me! Save all souls Almighty God and use me in whatever way You desire! You are my heart’s desire Lord! I want to please You today and always!
