Blessed are the pure of heart…

Jesus said, “Blessed are the pure of heart, for they will see God.” Matthew 5: 8

When I think of being pure of heart, I think of children. They are naturally kind, trusting, giving…assuming they have been raised in families that are loving and kind.

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14

To enter heaven we must be pure and that’s why Jesus says the kingdom of heaven belongs to the children, because they are pure.

God’s grace will purify our hearts and lives. God’s grace will cause us to turn away from sin and from company that might cause us to sin.

Let’s rely on God’s Sacraments to give us the grace we need to purify our lives. Let’s confess our sins as Jesus asked, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

Let’s receive the Holy Eucharist with great joy and thanksgiving for it is the Bread of Life. Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day” John 6:53-54

One of the first things that Jesus taught me is that “Love is a choice”.  It’s a choice to honor God. Pure hearts will make good choices that honor Jesus. God’s grace will sustain us; it will purify us and transform us so that one day we will be blessed to see God!
