The Divine Promises of the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, the Spirit that transforms our hearts, our lives and our world. The Holy Spirit is God, living in an inseparable communion with God, The Father and Jesus, God The Son.
God promised that He would give us a ‘new heart and a new spirit’ when He said, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.” Ezekiel 36:26-27
This promise is fulfilled in Baptism when we are blessed to receive the Holy Spirit, becoming children of God, filled with the Spirit of God. But do you ever wonder why then are there so many sins committed by Baptized Christians?
The Holy Spirit is like a perfect gentleman that comes calling with so many powerful gifts to give us but the perfect gentleman does not insist that we receive Him or come to love Him. Like all relationships, our relationship with the Holy Spirit must be pursued and nurtured.
We must acknowledge God’s presence in our lives and choose to trust in Him and surrender our lives to seeking and doing His Holy Will and if we do this, God continues to send His Holy Spirit upon us to enable us to resist temptation, to be patient in our suffering, to forgive wrongs, to pray for our enemies and to be charitable and generous. The Holy Spirit enables our lives to become a testimony to the love of God and the people around us will recognize in our kind, patient, merciful disposition that we have a mysterious force in us…that force is the power of God’s love living within us, lifting us up when we are down and enabling us to make choices that give Him glory.
The Holy Spirit Promises to be With Us Always
Jesus said, “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth.” John 14:16-17
The Holy Spirit Calls us Into an Intimate Relationship with God for we are God’s children
“The Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’ The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.” Romans 8:15-16
God calls His children into an intimate relationship with Him, forever united to His love, His power, His Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit Promises to Guide us and help us to know the Truth and live the Truth
“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth…” John 16:13
There is a force of darkness in the world that is motivating people to commit all sorts of evil—murder, rape, prostitution, drug trafficking, theft, pornography, money laundering, abortion, financial corruption; they are all born of the devil. God wants us to live in peace but Satan wants war and division!
The Holy Spirit Promises to Transform and Renew us, Changing our Hearts and our Minds
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Galatians 5:22-23
“He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit…” Titus 3:5-6
Ask Jesus to send His Holy Spirit upon you to help you to pray, to repent, to turn away from sin and be transformed by the greatness of God’s infinite love.
The Holy Spirit Promises to help us to Pray
“…The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8: 26-28
The Holy Spirit Promises to give us Power to be Witnesses of God’s love
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses…” Acts 1:8
The Holy Spirit empowers us with God’s gifts of knowledge and understanding, with wisdom, with courage, with right judgment, with reverence, with wonder and awe.
The Prophet Isaiah spoke of the coming of Jesus, full of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
“The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him,
The spirit of wisdom and understanding,
The spirit of counsel and strength,
The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.
And He will delight in the fear of the LORD,
And He will not judge by what His eyes see,
Nor make a decision by what His ears hear;” Isaiah 11:2-3
We cannot live out our faith without the Holy Spirit filling our hearts with God’s Love and Powerful Gifts.
Called by the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit has called me to a mission to bring people to the foot of the Cross of Jesus everyday at 3pm (in our local time zones or in any 3 o’clock global time zone convenient for prayer) because 3pm is the time Jesus died for us, also known as The Hour of Mercy. There are people all over the world promoting this opportunity to pray at The Hour of Mercy.
Everyday through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit I do this: I remember Him, Our Lord Jesus, crucified for love, and I grieve my sins and those of the world and I pray for His mercy upon all.
When was the last time you remembered the Crucified Lord, with His holy eyes full of tears and hope, loving you so unconditionally as He died on the Cross for you?
The Scriptures says, “They will look on the one they have pierced.” John 19:37.
For almost two decades now, I have been stopping daily at 3pm to remember Our Lord Jesus crucified, pierced for my sins and yours and sometimes my reflection on His Passion is brief and sometimes it is longer, but it is always life changing and humbling! Every day, I take a walk to Calvary in remembrance of the greatest love the world has ever known and will ever know, the love of Our Saviour Jesus Christ to honour Him and to love Him. Jesus is so worthy of this daily moment of remembrance! In my contemplation I look at Jesus on the Cross and as I remember His suffering, I repent of my sins and His Holy Spirit penetrates my heart and makes me want to do more to honour Him. Temptation is conquered by the greatness of His love. At this time I pray with people all across the globe for God’s divine assistance to silence the power of evil in our world and to bring forth His Holy Spirit to help us to love God and one another.
I have chosen to call this mission: The Mercy Movement
It is a mission to bring forth the Holy Spirit of God to bring mercy to our broken, suffering world!
Jesus suffered so much for our sins and He is so worthy of our love and He is waiting for us His people to confess our sins and change. This personal change that God desires is the fulfillment of God’s promise: “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.” Ezekiel 36:26-27
This heart that God wants to give us is a humble heart that beats for Him. It is a heart that yearns to save people from sinful lives so they can find lives of purpose and dignity. This type of change is nothing short of a revolution!
The word revolution means “to revolve” or to turn things around. Jesus wants us to turn away from sin so we can discover the peace, joy and love that comes from Him. But while men in every generation have committed to violent revolutions, Jesus is calling us to a peaceful revolution, brought about through His Holy Spirit entering into the hearts of His people to bring forth the fruits of reconciliation and peace, not violence and war.
God’s promise is this:
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
Let’s really reflect on this message:
“If my people who are called by name”
Christians, we are called by the name of God’s Only Son, Jesus Christ, One with the Father and The Holy Spirit. So in this Scripture God is calling us by name!
“will humble themselves”
God wants us to empty ourselves of all vanity and self-confidence and turn to Him with trust and complete surrender, like empty vessels ready for God to purify us and fill us with His Spirit.
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” 1 Corinthians 6:20
“and pray”
Prayer is our communication with God. Relationships only thrive where there is trusting, intimate communication. God wants time with us, but He will not communicate as we multi-task; He wants our undivided attention.
“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” Psalm 46:10
“and seek my face”
In the world of digital communications in which we live, we can often forsake in-person connections with a quick text message instead. But if we truly love one another we will never be satisfied with just texting or emailing our beloved ones, we will want to see them face-to-face. Jesus wants an intimate relationship with each of us. He wants us to know how very, very much He loves us and we can’t know that until we see His Crucified Face.
“But many were amazed when they saw him. His face was so disfigured he seemed hardly human, and from his appearance, one would scarcely know he was a man. And he will startle many nations. Kings will stand speechless in his presence. For they will see what they had not been told; they will understand what they had not heard about.” Isaiah 52: 14-15
If you had given your life for the one you loved, would you not want your sacrifice to be remembered?
Look at Him, the Crucified Jesus! Look at His face, so disfigured for love of you and me! Look at our King who was forced to wear a crown of thorns and see how your temptation to sin vanishes and know that Jesus, True God, True Man is giving you a new heart with His Holy Spirit opening you up to be the person He wants you to be and then God’s Will will be done in your life and it won’t be a matter of obedience, it will be a matter of pure love and holy desire.
“and turn from their wicked ways”
When we give the Holy Spirit the chance to change our lives, we will turn away from our wicked ways, for the love of God will be imprinted in our hearts and the memory of Our Crucified Lord Jesus will always be on our minds and this will motivate a peaceful revolution in our lives! New priorities will be set. New choices will be made, some of them we might have thought impossible, but for God nothing is impossible! We just need to let God into our lives and we need to come to Him with trust, acknowledging Him in every moment of our existence. And when we do all this, God will do what He promised:
“then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
Economic and political crises, violent revolutions, wars, disease, famine and natural disasters have wreaked havoc in so many parts of our world. Our world needs healing, our people needing healing! Restoration, renewal, new beginnings, global prosperity they all lie in the hands of God and we His people who are called by His name are called to be humble and pray and seek His face and turn away from sin and God will forgive us and bring the healing He promises.
Please join The Mercy Movement!
The Mercy Movement is a global Christian prayer movement, a historic mercy moment that occurs daily at the time Our Lord Jesus died for us, 3pm (in our local time zones or in any global time zone convenient for prayer). The Mercy Movement is a global call to Christians (of all denominations) to pray for the Holy Spirit to come upon our world and silence the forces of evil and darkness that cause so much sin and violence and destruction in our world. This movement is all about praying for God’s grace to create the type of change that gives our lives new meaning. Jesus came into the world to save us from our sins and to give us a new heart with His Holy Spirit living within us and that’s nothing short of a revolution that happens one soul-at-a-time. And as one person changes and turns away from sin, the world becomes safer and more enlightened by the grace of God.
Every disciple of Jesus is called to intercede for the salvation of souls. That means we are all called to pray for one another and to discover the great love of Jesus, Our Lord. Let us all honour Him by stopping everyday to remember His Passion, at the time He died for us, 3pm, in our local time zones or any time zone convenient for prayer. At this time, if but for a few moments, look at Him, the Holy One, Jesus Christ, who was pierced for our sins and when you look at the Crucified face of Jesus don’t be surprised that a peaceful revolution will occur in your life changing your perspective on everything!
The choices we make today affect our world and they affect our eternal life. Please make the choice to join The Mercy Movement which is a choice to change the world through prayer and through our witness to the greatest love the world has ever known and will ever know, the love of Jesus Christ, True God and True Man!
