How to stop worrying
There was a time in my life when I used to worry about many things. For those of you who don’t worry much you may be wondering, “Why did you worry?” The answer is I had not yet learned to trust Jesus. I didn’t realize that Jesus wanted to live with me, sharing my life and helping me with all my problems. While I always believed in God, years ago I had an inaccurate and incomplete understanding of God. Why? Because I had never read the Bible and I was not going to Church.
Jesus intervened in my life and told me to “Trust Him”. I actually heard Him say in my heart: “Trust me.” He told me that many, many times and ultimately I reached a point when I began to wonder “Do I know how to trust Jesus as He desires?” Then Jesus began to point me to some good books by spiritual leaders who began to explain the concept of “Absolute Surrender”. If you have never read the works of Rev. Andrew Murray I would strongly recommend all his books. He writes about the fact that we don’t understand how to trust and love Jesus as Jesus desires. It is only through the power of the Holy Spirit that we can give Jesus the love, the trust and the faith He desires.
Andrew Murray writes: “I desire by God’s grace to give you this message that your God in heaven answers the prayers which you have offered for blessing on yourselves and for blessing on those around you by this one demand: Are you willing to surrender yourselves absolutely into His hands?”
Absolute surrender is absolute and total confidence in the goodness and omnipotence of God. Will God deny you that which you need? No! Will God abandon you in a moment of trial? No! How much does God love you? Infinitely!
Imagine I gave you a well with the treasures of God’s graces in it. You could draw from the well as you desired and never lack the love of God. The well will never run dry and it will always supply you with the grace that you need. How would you feel? Tranquil, peaceful, confident, joyful…Would you worry? It’s unlikely you would worry, because you would know that you would never be denied access to God’s love and grace.
This well of infinite blessing is available to us through the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is always ready to sustain us, to teach us, to guide us, to give us the gifts of courage, knowledge and understanding, wisdom and right judgment. If we truly have faith, we need not worry for God will always be with us. I understand now that Jesus will never abandon me. I understand that it is His joy to provide for me and to teach me and help me to grow and mature as a spiritual being that He is preparing for eternal life with Him.
“What is meant by absolute surrender? It means that, as literally as Christ was given up entirely to God, I am given up entirely to Christ. Is that too strong? Some think so. Some think that never can be; that just as entirely and absolutely as Christ gave up His life to do nothing but seek the Father’s pleasure, and depend on the Father absolutely and entirely, I am to do nothing but to seek the pleasure of Christ. But that is actually true. Christ Jesus came to breathe His own Spirit into us, to make us find our very highest happiness in living entirely for God, just as He did.” Andrew Murray (From The Collected Works and Sermons of Reverend Andrew Murray)
So don’t worry! Believe in God’s infinite love. Let Jesus live in you and work through you! Surrender absolutely to your Holy Lord Jesus for His love for you is eternal and unending.
Jesus will help you with every challenge: “I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11: 28-30
Jesus calls us to be His and He will take care of His people. His yoke is His law to love and to do unto others as we would have them do unto us. There’s nothing complicated about that. Sin is a burden, a burden on the conscience and on the soul, but faithfulness and obedience to the will of God is joy and peace, free from worry, anxiety and stress. Don’t worry! Absolutely surrender to your Saviour Jesus Christ who loves you more than you can imagine! TRUST IN JESUS!
