God’s Promises
I think one of the most profitable things we can do is read the Bible. It is God’s Word. In it we understand God’s promises, God’s infinite love and His plan for His creation.
I spent most of my career in the business of marketing and communications and what I learned is that the message that is always the most powerful is the simple one.
No surprise that God’s message is indeed very simple. From the beginning of time, God sent prophets proclaiming His message and His message was all about a “covenant” between God and His people. A covenant is a contract of sorts, a promise, where there are a set of agreements declared between God and His people. Those who obey Him are blessed and those that disobey lose His blessing.
Read this passage carefully and you will understand that God blesses those that follow Him and punishes those that do not.
This passage is from Deuteronomy 30: 1-10, Moses speaks to the people:
“When all these blessings and curses I have set before you come on you and you take them to heart wherever the Lord your God disperses you among the nations, and when you and your children return to the Lord your God and obey him with all your heart and with all your soul according to everything I command you today, then the Lord your God will restore your fortunes and have compassion on you and gather you again from all the nations where he scattered you. Even if you have been banished to the most distant land under the heavens, from there the Lord your God will gather you and bring you back. He will bring you to the land that belonged to your ancestors, and you will take possession of it. He will make you more prosperous and numerous than your ancestors. The Lord your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live. The Lord your God will put all these curses on your enemies who hate and persecute you. You will again obey the Lord and follow all his commands I am giving you today. Then the Lord your God will make you most prosperous in all the work of your hands and in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your land. The Lord will again delight in you and make you prosperous, just as he delighted in your ancestors, if you obey the Lord your God and keep his commands and decrees that are written in this Book of the Law and turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.”
As I reflect on my own life, I realize that I have never felt God’s peace in my heart as I do now. I finally understand God’s Word. I have acknowledged my sins. I have repented and told God I want to atone for my unfaithfulness to His covenant.
For most of my life, I lived in ignorance. I was unaware of God’s great presence and love and now with the veil of ignorance lifted I realize I have a great responsibility—the responsibility that is bestowed upon souls when God grants souls the gift of true faith.
I believe Jesus has “circumcised my heart” as Moses described and this circumcision has come about as I embraced the “New Covenant” signed by Jesus in His own Sacred Blood. This new contract does not cancel any of the commandments God gave to us through Moses. Remember Jesus said: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” Matthew 5:17
Jesus dies on the Cross to wash away our sins with His divine sacrifice and by immersing myself in His Passion I fell in love with Our God made flesh, Our Lord Jesus. He etched His name in my heart and I became His. My heart was changed and faithfulness ceased to be about the law. Faithfulness was all about love. It was about His love for me and it was about my love for Him. If He would die for me, then I will live for Him! I will live to please You Almighty! I will live to make You smile!
God describes Himself in the Old Testament as a husband who has been betrayed. The husband’s love was not yet understood. The Bride was unfaithful as she foolishly pursued foreign gods. But the husband’s love becomes clear to His bride when she witnesses His sacrifice. He is so willing to suffer for her that she becomes His not by a contract defined by rules but by a contract defined by desire, by a holy desire to give Him everything.
Dear friends, the moment when Jesus circumcised my heart occurred as I walked with Him the Way to Calvary. By meditating on His Passion, I began to understand how great is God’s love. I encourage you to try to do this everyday as you ask God to help you and I am confident you will become a better person. You will fall in love with Jesus and then faithfulness to the Bridegroom of our soul will become simply a matter of desire. The Bride in love seeks no other suitors! The Bride in love sees no one but the one she loves and when the one she loves is the Holy One…can Satan compete with that? No! Only Jesus can satisfy His Bride.
Please know that it is Jesus today who is speaking to you, using an insignificant instrument—me. Jesus loves you and so do I!
“So, as the Holy Spirit says:
“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts
as you did in the rebellion.” Hebrews 3:15
Please join The Mercy Movement, a Christian prayer movement that is uniting believers of Jesus at the foot of His Cross to pray and remember His Passion, everyday at the time Jesus died for us, 3pm (in our local time zones). Believe in the power of our united prayer! Let us believe and trust in Jesus and pray for His saving grace upon all. God will answer our prayers!
“If my people, who are called by my name, will HUMBLE themselves and PRAY and SEEK my face and TURN from their wicked ways, then I will HEAR from heaven, and I will FORGIVE their sin and will HEAL their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
The Mercy Movement changes the world by summoning the Holy Spirit to change the hearts and minds of men and women. It’s a revolution defined by the love of God bringing forth the fruits of repentance and peace!
