“I am the LORD your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy.” Leviticus 11:44

God calls us to live a life consecrated to Him, dedicated to His Holy Will. Let’s consider what it means to enter into a special, consecrated relationship with Our Saviour Jesus Christ. We don’t need to be ordained into a “religious” life to be consecrated to God, but we must be ready to follow Jesus faithfully, with zeal and devotion each day of our life, proving our love to Him and to our neighbours continuously.

Set Apart for God’s Holy Purpose

Consider the consecrated cup used in the Mass. This vessel is dedicated solely for the purpose that God intended it for. The consecrated cup is exclusively the property of God used for His praise, glory and honour. In the same way the consecrated life is dedicated to God and is devoted to God’s praise, glory and honour. The consecrated cup belongs to God and so too does the consecrated soul.

Preciously Made and Beautifully Adorned – Everlasting

The consecrated cup used in the Mass is never an inexpensive, disposable cup. It is a vessel that is precious and beautifully made. We, God’s disciples, are precious to God. We are made for eternal life and God adorns us with His holy virtues of humility, patience and kindness. The consecrated soul is made beautiful by God as it takes on the likeness of Our Lord Jesus standing for mercy and justice for all with zeal, perseverance and courage.

Clean, Pure, Empty, Prepared and Made Ready to Fulfill God’s Purpose

The consecrated cup is meticulously cleaned and made ready to fulfill the special purpose that it has been created for. Similarly, the consecrated life dedicated to God is purified by the forgiveness of God and prepared to fulfill God’s special purpose and plan. Just as the consecrated cup begins the Mass as a pure and empty vessel, so too must we, consecrated to God, allow God to purify our hearts and empty us of pride and self-will before we can humbly commit to the will of God. We must allow God to make us poor in spirit. We must acknowledge our nothingness before God’s greatness and we must ask for God’s blessing and grace through the Holy Spirit and the Body and Blood of Jesus. Once we are truly empty of confidence in our selves we can turn with confidence to God, submitting ourselves to His grace, providence and wisdom, following Him and obeying Him.

Should the consecrated cup be soiled, it must first be emptied, cleaned and made pure again before it can once again serve the special purpose God has created it for. Similarly, souls consecrated to God must continuously seek purification from God through His infinite mercy as we confess our sins and ask for His forgiveness and pardon.

Soldiers of Christ are Consecrated to God and live for God’s glory

“No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer.” 2 Timothy 2:4

This requires prudence and caution on the part of souls consecrated to God. We must ask Our Holy Lord Jesus, Our Saviour, who we follow, to guide us and keep us safe from evil and temptation. We must pray continuously and be full of faith, hope and charity. Our lives dedicated to God must prove our love in every moment and in every choice.

Baptized Christians let us consecrate our lives to Jesus. We are His disciples; we belong to God. We are precious to Him, prepared for His good works, adorned by His holy virtues, blessed by His Holy Spirit and strengthened by His Sacred Body and Blood in the Holy Eucharist. Let us pray today for God’s infinite blessing and ominpotent power to be ever upon us so that we can fulfill the plans God has for us to spread the Gospel message, inspiring peace, reconciliation and trust in the endless mercy of Our Lord Jesus.

God loves you!  Surrender to His Holy Will as you embrace Jesus as the Good Shepherd.  Jesus will guide you to heaven, trust in Him and believe in Him!
