A Memory of the Greatest Love of All

“There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” John 15:13

Before Jesus died He celebrated His Last Supper with His apostles and made a special request of them.

“And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” Luke 22:19

The Mass is a solemn remembrance of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus said, “For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me.” John 6:56-57

St. Paul warned early Christians to receive the Eucharist with reverence and understanding: “For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves.” 1 Corinthians 11:29

Some people have turned away from the Catholic Church because of the many scandals and abuses but perhaps the greatest scandal of all is that the great sacrifice of Jesus Christ is not remembered.

For the past decade there is one thing that has defined every single day of my life and that one thing is this:

Each and every day, I stop at the Time Jesus died for us, 3pm, to remember His Passion, Death and Resurrection.

The memory of the suffering of Jesus Christ has changed my experience of the Mass and it has changed my heart and my life.

As I go to Mass I think about the GREAT PRICE JESUS PAID FOR OUR SALVATION. And when I receive the Eucharist I am in AWE OF THE HUMBLE MAJESTY OF JESUS CHRIST.

Veiled in the species of bread and wine we are able to receive the BODY, BLOOD, SOUL AND DIVINITY OF JESUS CHRIST!

What a gift of God’s Grace!

This holy reality, the transubstantiation of the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ is not the work of man it is the work of God’s Holy Spirit.   So we need not fear that Jesus has departed from the Catholic Church because He will always live in the Holy Eucharist, a holy gift from God.

Years ago I was traveling in Italy when I entered a furniture store and as I toured around I noticed a dusty Crucifix hanging in a dark corner being used to hold up electrical cords.

I grieved as I saw this holy object being used in an unholy way.

Clearly in that situation the Crucifix did not trigger a memory of the greatest love the world has ever known or will ever know–the love of Our Saviour Jesus Christ.

To the surprise of the saleswoman in charge of the store I said in Italian “I would like to buy the Crucifix in the corner.”

“Oh, the Crucifix is not for sale” she said

So I opened my wallet and pulled out all the Euros I had and I said, “Will this be enough?”

And she said, “Yes” and I walked out with the Crucifix.

If someone were to save your life would you ever forget them?

Jesus saves us all from our sins, opening up the eternal promise of Heaven for us.

LET’S NEVER FORGET THE PASSION OF JESUS CHRIST!

I invite you to do this one small thing to give glory to Our Lord Jesus Christ and don’t be surprised at how this will change your life.

I invite you to join The Mercy Movement, a prayer movement that is uniting the Body of Christ in prayer and remembrance of the Passion of Christ, every day at the Time Jesus died for us, 3pm (in our local time zones). Every day we stop to remember how much Jesus suffered to reconcile us to God The Father, to pay the price of our sins and to open up the gates of Heaven to us. We stop to say Thank You Jesus for loving us so much that You would die for us! We pray for Jesus to send His Holy Spirit upon our world to bring healing, reconciliation and peace. We are peaceful revolutionaries who believe in the power of prayer and in the power of our unity as believers in God’s Only Son, Jesus Christ.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

Create a special memory with Jesus every day as you go to Calvary and remember how much He suffered to save you and me and all who will believe in Him. If 3pm locally does not work for you enter another time zone that does work. And don’t be surprised at how God will use the memory of the Passion of Jesus Christ to change your heart and your life!
