Fidelity is a choice that becomes easier and easier when we desire the thing or person we choose to be faithful to. If an athlete wants to compete, he will be faithful to his training regime if he believes that the training protocol is key to his success. Fidelity is a choice that honours something or someone we desire. A diabetic will be faithful to his dietary restrictions and medical instructions if it affects his ability to stay healthy and he desires to stay healthy.

Fidelity often dies when desire dies.

A man or woman that no longer desires his/her spouse can be easily tempted to be unfaithful. Desire and fidelity are positively correlated; in other words when your desire to honour someone in your life increases, so too does your fidelity. Now you may say people can be faithful ‘without desire’ and it’s true people can remain faithful in marriage for example without desire for one another but these commitments are generally difficult and usually full of sorrow and temptation.  But if you look closer at these relationships you will find that there is some sort of desire that keeps the couple united–sometimes it’s desire for the well being of the children that keeps them united, sometimes it’s desire for financially stability, sometimes it’s desire to please God.  There is a connection between faithful behaviour and desire.

Jesus desires each of us so much that he chose to die for us.   “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

How faithful are you to God?

I believe that fidelity to God is a function of how much we desire to love Him.

Desire motivates behaviour, rightly or wrongly.

My life began to change when I finally saw God’s face in the Crucified Lord Jesus. By contemplating the Passion of Christ I began to see the face of Jesus, not through some miraculous, mystical encounter, but through the eyes of my heart. It has been more than a decade now that I never let a day go by without remembering the Passion of Christ and seeing the Crucified face of Jesus. Contemplating the Passion of Christ has changed my life and my heart and filled me with such ardent desire to please Jesus.  It has also helped me to see the face of Jesus in the people around me, especially in those that are suffering.

Memory and desire are also positively correlated.  In other words, the things and people you desire are top of mind.  People in love can’t stop thinking of the one they love.

Jesus is always on my mind. The memory of His Passion is always near because every day @ 3pm, the Time Jesus died for us, I stop to take a walk of remembrance to Calvary (the place Jesus died). Sometimes I use a book with Scripture and images from Mel Gibson’s film ‘The Passion of The Christ” and usually I cry when I see how Jesus was brutally tortured for our salvation.

“Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13

The memory of the suffering of Jesus fuels my desire to be faithful to Him and to honour Him every day of my life.

I truly believe that if more Christians would take some time every day to remember the Passion of Christ there would be a great transformation in the Church motivating true repentance, faith and zeal.

To motivate this outcome I continue to promote the Christian prayer movement, A Peaceful Revolution in the Name of Jesus Christ. This movement is uniting followers of Jesus every day in a solemn time of prayer and remembrance of the Passion of Christ at the Time Jesus died for us, 3pm (each of us in our local time zones).

Now you might say I really can’t stop at 3pm because I am at work. And to this I would say ‘God understands your challenges’. So why not choose to pray at 3pm in another time zone that is convenient to you!  All over the world Christians are uniting to pray at the Time Jesus died for us.  Choose the time zone that works best for you but do join in so you see the Crucified face of Jesus every day @ the Time He died for us. Look into His holy eyes full of pain and tears as He dies on the Cross for you and me and all who will believe in Him and tell Jesus you love Him! Pray for His grace upon you and all souls so that we may desire to be faithful to Him. Pray for Jesus to send His Holy Spirit upon our suffering world to motivate spiritual healing and transformation.

I truly believe that the key to fidelity is desire and that great desire for Jesus is born at the Foot of His Cross as we see how much Jesus suffered so we could become His true disciples—Ambassadors of love in the world.

Jesus is not desired because people don’t know Him. To know Him is to love Him. And to know Jesus as the Crucified Lord that saves us is to desire Him with a faithful, everlasting love.

Remember the Passion of Christ every day and you will fall in love with Jesus and once in love there will be nothing that the devil can use to take you away from Your Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. No sacrifice will be too big for the Holy One, Jesus Christ, who sacrificed everything for us!

Jesus You are so worthy of our love and desire. You are my Heart’s Desire! I love You! I long to please You!
