Doing our best for God…what does that mean to you?

At work you may know exactly what it means to do your best. You have clear objectives and plans to achieve them.

Satisfying God is similar in that we have an objective to give Him glory and God has plans for each of us.

Do you understand God’s plan for you?

Do you have a deep desire to please Our Lord Jesus?

I don’t know what plans God has for you, but I do know some of the important things we need to do to please God.

Let’s consider some of the ingredients needed if we are to truly do our best for Him.

1. Get Connected to the Holy One, Jesus Christ, who loves you the most!

Jesus wants an intimate relationship with you where you are constantly drawing upon His grace in each and every moment.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5

When we sin we are like the branch that breaks off the vine; in that case we need to reconnect.

When we repent and confess our sins God receives us again with joy like the Father receives the prodigal child: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

To be truly connected to God, we must strive to be like Him and be merciful.

“”Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.” Luke 6:37

Have faith in Jesus for Our Lord Jesus is always ready to help you!

“I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

Take time to read His Holy Word in the Bible for in this way you will hear the voice of God speaking to your soul and you will discover His plan for you.

2. Come to God’s Table and worship Him.

For many years I did not participate in the Mass. I did not know what I was missing. I believe now that Jesus is truly present in the Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist and so did the original apostles.

St. Paul used to caution the first Christians to receive the Eucharist with reverence and understanding:

“So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves.” 1 Corinthians 11:27-29

3. Be Passionate about Jesus, just as He is passionate about you and serve Him!

Have you ever seen a successful person who is not passionate about what they are doing? The successful artist is passionate about art. The successful athlete is passionate about their sport. The successful teacher is passionate about learning.

Great disciples are passionate about Jesus! Doing our best for Jesus requires passion!

If you are not sure you have that passion for Jesus, meditate on the Passion of Christ and look into the Holy eyes of Jesus as He is dying on the Cross for you and you will discover God’s infinite love for you.  Take a walk to Calvary and let the Scriptural reflection open your heart and mind to God’s love.

I believe that meditating on the Passion of Christ is key to opening our hearts to loving God as He so deserves to be loved.

“We love because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19

Be inspired by St. Peter and St. Paul.

They were both martyred for the faith in Christ. They both fought the “good fight”, proclaiming His Holy Will until the very end.

They were men of prayer and men of action. They did their best for God. They did not advocate the popular ‘world view’; they stood for God’s will, teaching God’s way as they fought for integrity, peace and justice.

“But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened. But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.” 1 Peter 3:14-16

If we are passionate about Jesus we will repent, serve and worship God and pray for the salvation of all souls as we joyfully hope in God’s promise of eternal life.

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

There are so many people suffering in the world who need our prayers!
