The following photos were taken in Lourdes, France at the Sanctuary where the Virgin Mary appeared to St. Bernadette. May these images and the Scripture help you to contemplate the Passion of Christ allowing the Lord’s Holy Sacrifice to transform you into the person God wills for you to be.
Jesus is condemned to death
“God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.” (John 3:16-17) “He was harshly treated, yet He submitted and did not open His mouth. He was silent like a lamb led to the slaughter …” (Isaiah 53:7) Jesus is God and the majesty of God cannot be properly contemplated by the human mind. Imagine the Almighty surrendering to death by His own creation. Only in Eternity will we understand the greatness of this divine sacrifice. I love you Lord!!!
Jesus takes up His Cross
“He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows.” (Isaiah 53:3-4) Jesus said, “Those who wish to be My followers must deny their very selves, take up their cross daily and follow Me.” (Luke 9:23) “Come to me all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” ( Matthew 11: 28-29) The Almighty calls us to understand that in this life there will be hardships that we must accept, and He reminds us that He will always be with us to help us and comfort us. Holy Lord, give us the strength to endure the challenges and sufferings we must with courage drawing on the fount of Your great kindness. I love you Jesus!!!
Jesus falls for the first time
“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:6) “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” (John 1:29) Imagine the Holy One, our Creator, being pushed and heckled by the crowd, falling under the weight of the Cross, our Holy Mother watching with eyes full of tears…If only we could have recognized Him…If only we could have respected His commandments. What an incredible testimony of Divine Love and Mercy. The God-Man is enduring the greatest pain to open the gates of Paradise. Let us keep all these moments in our hearts as treasures that will keep us from falling into sin. My soul longs for you Master!
Jesus meets His Blessed Mother Mary
“Come, all you who pass by along the road, look and see whether there is any pain like My pain.” (Lamentations 1:12) The Virgin Mary meets Jesus “His appearance was so marred beyond human semblance, and his form beyond that of the sons of men—so shall he startle many nations; kings shall shut their mouths because of him.” (Isaiah 52: 14-15) Mary knew this day was coming and she understood the reason for this great divine sacrifice, yet our Heavenly Mother’s heart breaks at the sight of Her Son, True God, True Man. “You are now in anguish, but I will see you again. Then your hearts will rejoice, and no one shall deprive you of your joy.” (John 16:22) Holy Mother help us to love Jesus with Your heart; teach us, inspire us and protect us from all evil. Jesus and Mary I love you!!!
Simon of Cyrene helps Jesus carry His Cross
“And after they had mocked Him, they took His robe off and put His garments on Him, and led Him away to crucify Him. And as they were coming out, they found a man of Cyrene named Simon, whom they pressed into service to bear His cross.” (Matthew 27:31–32)
Jesus said, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of Mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40) St. Paul reminds us to “Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2) Jesus help us to remember that just as You came into the world to serve we are also called to serve one another. Open our hearts and our minds to Your great mercy; help us to imitate Your infinite compassion and love. Jesus you are my inspiration!!!
Veronica wipes the face of Jesus
Veronica is not spoken of in the Scriptures, yet legend has it that a woman by this name was so moved by the Holy Face of Jesus that she removed her veil to wipe His face and that the image of Jesus’ face remained on her veil. Even if you do not believe this legend, it is not difficult to imagine that there would be someone in the crowd who would want to comfort Jesus. Surely there would be someone that the Holy Spirit would allow to understand that the Holy Face, so disfigured, is the living God. Remember Jesus said, “He who has seen Me has seen the Father.” (John 14:9) “The Son is the reflection of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being.” (Hebrews 1:3) Imagine having the privilege of wiping the face of God and in that moment showing God, without speaking a word, our intense desire to soothe His pain. This opportunity exists every time we try to comfort one another, and in those moments we wipe the Holy face of Jesus so bruised by our sins. Jesus forgive us for having so offended You! For the sake of your sorrowful Passion have mercy on us Holy One and allow us to become a source of consolation to You!!!
Jesus falls a second time
“We do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tested in every way as we are, but without sinning.” (Hebrews 4:15) Jesus knows that we are subject to temptation and He calls to us “Come to Me, all you who are weary and overburdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) Nothing is impossible, if the Holy hand of the Almighty is holding us up. Let us call Him to help us, to guide us and to protect us from all evil! May our love for You Lord become a source of comfort and joy to You! You have waited too long for Your people! Forgive us Lord!
Jesus comforts the women of Jerusalem
“Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me but for yourselves and for your children.” (Luke 23:28) Jesus calls all of us to one thing: repentence! “Unless you repent you will all likewise perish.” Luke 13:5 Let us take this warning seriously and prepare our hearts for Him by repenting and giving proof of our repentance with new attitudes, new choices and relationships renewed with patience and mercy. Will you pray today for this intention? If Jesus can endure so much for us, then what can we endure for Him? Beloved God forgive us and help every soul to give you the love you so desire. “The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.” Psalm 51:17
Jesus falls a third time
“All who see me mock me.” Psalm 22:7 Remember Jesus tells us, “all who exalt themselves shall be humbled, and those who humble themselves shall be exalted.” (Luke 14:11) “Let your attitude be identical to that of Christ…He emptied Himself taking the form of a slave.” (Phil 2:5-7) Let us not judge one another and let us never be guilty of discrimination. In God’s eyes we are all equal; let us pray for one another and be ready to suffer for one another. Help us Lord! My heart is Yours!
Jesus is stripped of His clothing
“They divide My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots.” (Psalm 22:19) What indignity our Lord and Master allowed Himself to be subject to. When we are subject to humiliation or ridicule, let us remember that our Lord suffered them first. “Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” (Ephesians 6:11) Jesus forgive us for all our offenses. Let your humility inspire us to be ever gentler in the face of injustice, so that our commitment to love may conquer all evil! I love you Lord!!!
Jesus is nailed to the Cross
“My strength is trickling away like water, and all My bones are dislocated. My heart has turned to wax and melts within Me. My mouth is as dry as clayware, and my tongue sticks to My jaws; You have laid Me down in the dust of death.” (Psalm 22:15) “They have pierced My hands and My feet; I can count all My bones.” (Psalm 22:17) “Father forgive them; they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34) “I have come down from heaven not to do My own Will but to do the Will of Him who sent Me. “ (John 6:38) For all eternity Lord, I pledge to you my love, my gratitude, my awe and reverence! Holy One help us to be all that you want us to be, save us all and at the end of this life bring us into Your eternal kingdom of heavenly light! We surely are not worthy, but Your mercy is greater than our misery! Jesus I trust in You and I love you so much! My heart breaks at the sight of your suffering; I grieve my sins so much, but my heart soars with hope that You will restore all things to their former beauty and perfection!!!
Jesus dies on the Cross
“Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2: 5-11) Jesus may every soul on earth understand this great truth that You are our God and that You descended from heaven to earth to redeem Your people, a people You loved with such desire that the human mind cannot begin to contemplate the immensity of Your love! I love you my Holy One and I am so sorry for having offended You!!! Purify us and sanctify us by your Holy blood! You are forever in my heart and on my mind! Use me as You will and be totally satisfied with me! My mission is to please You!
Jesus is taken down from the Cross
“This is how God showed His love: He sent His only Son into the world…as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” (1Jn 4:9) “Beloved if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. “ (John 4:11) May our Lord’s peace be upon you: “Great peace have those who love your law; nothing can make them stumble.” (Psalm 119:165) In the tender arms of Mary did our Savior rest; may Jesus rest in our hearts as we strive only to honor Him as He so deserves. Let us never allow a single day to go by without a moment of contemplation on the sorrowful Passion of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer. Pause today and everyday at 3 o’clock to commemorate the greatest love the world will ever know—the love of Jesus Christ, true God and true man! Jesus You are my heart’s desire!!!
Jesus is laid in the tomb
“Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat. However, if it dies, it bears much fruit.” (John 12:24) “Christ…was raised to life on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.” (1 Cor 15:4) “We know that our old self was crucified with him so that the sinful body might be destroyed, and we might no longer be enslaved to sin…For we know that Christ being raised from the dead will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. The death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal bodies, to make you obey their passions.” (Romans 6: 6-12)
Jesus although sinless died this tortured death to open the gates of Paradise to a Bride that was not worthy of such love. Let us be the penitent Bride who waits in anticipation for our reunion with Jesus, our God and the Bridegroom of our souls! For all eternity Lord I pledge my devotion to You and only You! Thank you Jesus for loving your Bride so much! Every day and especially at 3 o’clock, the hour of Your death, allow me to remember you and to show You how much I love You!
My Jesus, my God, into Your hands I commend my spirit, my life, my every moment! Do with me what You will. With great anticipation, I await the glorious day when I may see you face to face! Please forgive me for all my offenses! I trust in You Jesus!
Jesus is Risen!
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;
and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.” John 11: 25-27
