The Power of the Holy Spirit to Change the World

The journey with God begins with a special anointing. We receive God’s power through the gift of the Holy Spirit: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8

Through the omnipotence of God’s Holy Spirit living within us, we are empowered to do good works. God lives in us and we live in Him. “But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.” Jude 1:21

“Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit. There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines. Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body–whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free–and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.” 1 Corinthians 12: 3 -14

The Fruits of the Holy Spirit

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Let us not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another.” Galatians 5: 22-26

The Holy Spirit of God does not insist that we embrace Him. This powerful presence of divine love is the power of God Himself. It proceeds from the Father and the Son and it is God’s Love, God’s Truth, God’s Power and God’s Holy Inspiration that allows us to do all things for the glory of God.

The Holy Spirit of God is God and it changes our hearts and our minds, our priorities and our lives.

Think of mankind as the soil of God.  The soil alone cannot bear fruit.  If the soil is to give birth to a harvest it must be nourished to become fertile.  However even fertile soil devoid of the seed of God’s love cannot bear fruit.  People of God must bear fruit that gives God glory.

We can have ‘knowledge’ and ‘understanding’ both gifts of the Holy Spirit, but if we do not act on that knowledge and understanding there can be no manifestation of love and no fruit that proves that we are God’s people.

Let me offer a simple example.  We know that God does not will for mankind to steal.  It is God’s law.  “You shall not steal”  Exodus 20:15

In the digital age, stealing can occur as people share intellectual property (IP) illegally, e.g., sharing music and movies.  The Holy Spirit gives us the gift of knowledge that we should not steal physical property of any kind.  The Holy Spirit also gives us the gift of understanding so that we can appreciate that illegally sharing digital property is the same as stealing physical property.  The Holy Spirit also gives us the gifts of wisdom and right judgement that enable us to seek and pursue God’s will.  Consider then how the gifts of the Holy Spirit, ‘knowledge’, ‘understanding’ and ‘wisdom’ and ‘right judgement’ all work together to enable us to make choices God would approve of.  We know the commandments of God are to not steal.  We understand that illegally sharing intellectual property like movies and music is stealing.  We must then act with wisdom and exercise right judgement when we act in accordance to God’s will and not violate the commandment ‘do not steal’ by illegally sharing IP.

We live in a world where suicide bombers think they are doing God’s will by martyring themselves and killing others.  They have been horribly DECEIVED and need to receive the Holy Spirit of God, the Spirit of Truth and Love.  We must pray that all people who kill thinking that they are fulfilling some sort of divine plan understand that GOD DOES NOT WANT PEOPLE TO KILL!

The commandment of God is “You shall not murder.”  Exodus 20:13

We know that abortion is murder of an unborn child and that it is a violation of God’s Holy Will.  However in many places abortion is considered a legal right.  If someone were to walk into an abortion clinic to kill a doctor performing abortions that would be murder and it would be wrong in God’s eyes.  We must advocate for God’s will in a peaceful way by working to change people’s hearts through the power of the Holy Spirit.  Some people believe that the only way for the world to surrender to the will of God is to kill people standing in God’s way.  That is the way of violence and violent revolution and it is NOT GOD’S WILL OR GOD’S WAY!  God’s way is one of a peaceful revolution.  Through the power of the Holy Spirit God enables people to embrace His Love and His Peace and His Truth and that causes radical change without violence.

Let us pray…

Holy Lord please strengthen us in our faith and fill our hearts with Your Holy Spirit so that we can know and understand Your Holy Will and Your Holy Way.  Guide us to fulfill the plans You have for us. Allow us to draw more and more people to You Holy Lord.  Work with us Lord to silence the forces of evil in the world and help us to pray as You desire for the redemption of all souls. We need You Jesus to send forth Your Holy Spirit to renew the face of the earth, to empower us to resist the temptations of the flesh, to turn away from evil and violence and to desire that which is holy in Your eyes. We thank You Almighty God for sending Your Holy Spirit upon us to teach us, to guide us, to console us, enabling us to believe, to pray, to forgive, to love and to hope in You Jesus now and forever! I love You God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit!

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13

And so we will never stop trusting in You Jesus and hoping in You. We keep our eyes on the eternal horizon longing for our eternal communion with You in Paradise, where we live forever and ever.  Amen!

Friends of Jesus, if we want to build a better world for our children, we must pray that the Holy Spirit enters the hearts of more people.  The Holy Spirit convinces us of our sins and helps us to commit to honouring God in all that we do.  Let us ask Jesus for the Holy Spirit to help us to pray for all souls.  Let us unite daily at the Hour of Mercy, the time Our Saviour died for us, 3pm (in our local time zones) as we remember how much Jesus suffered to open the gates of Paradise to us and let us pray for the Holy Spirit to come upon us as a healing balm to enable us to repent of our sins and seek God’s forgiveness.

“But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.” Luke 12:48

We who have been given the gift of faith in Our Lord Jesus Christ are entrusted to be ambassadors of God on earth.  We are called as Disciples of Jesus to teach all people to love one another, to be merciful, to forgive, to promote peace and justice.  We must ask God to empower us with His Holy Spirit of Love to motivate more people to love, to forgive, to be charitable and kind.  We must believe in the power of our united prayer Christians for we are God’s people and it is through prayer and carrying our Cross that we will bring more and more souls to repentance and to understand God’s will that we all turn away from sin of all sorts.

“Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.” Psalm 34:14
