Praying for Nice France – In the Wake of Tragedy It’s Time to Understand and Get Organized!

I feel numb and full of grief as I think about the tragedy that has just occurred in Nice, France.  I have had the privilege of visiting Nice many times. Situated on the French Riviera, it is a place of beauty, full of tourists enjoying the beaches and seaside resorts, the mild Mediterranean climate and the festive ambiance. It’s hard to imagine being on the street celebrating with family and friends and then to see your loved ones struck down and killed by a 20-ton truck driven by a man intent on taking innocent lives!

News reports are that the Islamic State has claimed responsibility for this terrorist attack in Nice, France, which has killed 84 people and injured more than 200, in a statement released on Saturday, July 16.

Let us pray for our neighbours in Nice, France. Let us pray for all the victims. For those who have died, may Our Holy Lord grant you eternal peace. For those who are in hospital fighting to live, may Jesus help you to heal both emotionally and physically. For all those who grieve, may God give you faith and hope in His eternal love. May His Holy Spirit be with you to strengthen you and help you through this horrible tragedy. For Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel who caused this destruction, may Jesus have mercy on your soul.   I have read that he was diagnosed not long ago with the beginnings of psychosis. People with mental illnesses, socially isolated and psychologically unwell can be easy targets for terrorists.

Believers in Jesus, do you see the growing urgency for believers to unite in prayer? Do you understand the signs of the times?

Do you understand that growing terrorist threats, ever increasing violence of all sorts, wars, coups, crimes, immorality, impurity are all signs of the spirit of darkness growing in our world?

Imagine the night sky illuminated by many stars. The stars although outnumbered by the sea of darkness still manage to light up the night sky. But if we start erasing the stars what happens? The darkness begins to overpower the light.

We are ‘people of the light’ and it is our divine mission to inspire one another to be loving, merciful and just. We must call upon the Holy Spirit to come upon our world to convince people of sin and to motivate repentance and conversion.

Like many people I believe that we are living in the end-times and that as believers we must take note of the biblical signs that call us as disciples to unite, organize and fulfill the plans God has for us.

… There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.” 2 Timothy 3:1-4

The first disciples asked Jesus to help them to understand the signs of the end-times. They asked, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the close of the age?” And Jesus answered them, “See that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” Matthew 24: 3-14

It is estimated that between 100 to 200 million Christians globally are persecuted just because they believe in Jesus. Many Christians have been killed for their faith. The UN has reported recently that over 60 million people are displaced because of wars. This has been reported as the worst refugee crisis in history.

Many people have been deceived into believing that God wants them to fight ‘holy wars’.  Jesus warned His apostles that “…the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God. They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me.” John 16:2-3

We live in a world where people strap bombs to their bodies and detonate them in public killing themselves and others, and indeed those people believe that they are called to martyrdom and that they are doing a service to God.

How do we convince them that they have been deceived by the powers of darkness?

The answer to this question is very important!

The answer to this question is this:

There is GREAT URGENCY for the people of God, the people who are committed to preaching the Gospel to then ends of the earth to draw believers together into a UNIFIED, ORGANIZED, DETERMINED ARMY OF PRAYER PARTNERS who will pray for the Holy Spirit to come upon all souls.

We will be like the stars that will shine in the darkness! God will hear and answer our prayers! God’s Holy Spirit will convince people of His peaceful, merciful way and His holy will. People who may have been deceived into believing that God wills for killing and death will understand that they have been deceived by the power of darkness, for the power of evil (Satan and his demonic force) wants murder, fear, hatred, vengeance and war.

The battle between God and His enemy Satan will endure until the very end and we, disciples of Christ, must remain focused on doing the holy will of God, preaching the Good News, encouraging people to repent and turn away from sin.

Read carefully for this is God’s Promise:

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14

Throughout every generation, man has fought violent revolutions but Jesus died to motivate a ‘peaceful revolution’. God promised to give us a ‘new heart’ and a ‘new Spirit’. This ‘peaceful revolution’ would be brought about through the holy sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Jesus died so that we could turn away from sin through the power of His Holy Spirit filling our heart’s with faith, hope and love.

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” Ezekiel 36:26

I urge you to not just grieve the recent terrorist attacks; I urge you to commit to joining an army of prayer partners that unite every day at the time Our Holy Lord Jesus died for us, 3pm, in our local time zones, to pray for the Holy Spirit to come upon all souls, especially those in most need of God’s mercy. At this time we remember the Passion of Christ and in a deep spirit of thanksgiving we bring all our petitions to God.

“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” Colossians 4:2

Only the power of God can silence the force of evil determined to continue to brutally kill the innocent. Let us UNITE in PRAYER EVERYDAY AT THE HOUR OF MERCY IN A FAITH THAT WILL MOVE MOUNTAINS!
